As we embark on a brand new year, I started thinking about all the different things I’ve been loving lately. Instead of reflecting on all the products I loved throughout 2017, I decided to just cover December because man that’d be a lot of products to think about! Anyway, let’s dive into my current favorites. I’m keeping it short and simple this month!
Earth Science Chamomile & Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover
This stuff is amazing. Honestly. I put some on a cotton round, hold it on my closed eye for a few seconds and then gently wipe and all my eye makeup comes off. Even waterproof mascara! Some makeup is more stubborn than others, but still. This is fragrance free, so it doesn’t irritate my eyelids or skin, and it feels so nice and soothing. I still like using makeup wipes to remove the makeup around the rest of my face, but this has been my favorite for removing eye makeup for months and I just keep forgetting to mention it. It’s taken me months to finish this bottle, and I already bought a backup.
Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow: Rose Gold Retro
This is such a beautiful color! Oh my goodness. This looks great either all over the lid, in the inner corner for a pop of shimmer or even in the center of the lid for a halo effect. It’s very pigmented, and you have some time to work with it and blend it out before it fully sets, which is nice.
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink: 15 Lover
This was probably one of the biggest surprises for me recently. Liquid lipsticks can be so tough for me because I have dry lips basically all year, but especially in winter. This color is the perfect “your lips, but better” shade for me, and it matches basically any eye look. The formula feels sticky when you first apply it, and it takes a little while for that stickiness to go away, but it doesn’t transfer at all once you let it dry for a few minutes. It doesn’t layer well over itself, but I noticed I didn’t really have to touch it up at all. I wore it to my fiance’s company Christmas party, and I didn’t touch it up even after appetizers, drinks, dinner, talking, laughing, etc. It did start to fade a little in the center of the lips after a few hours, but it was very subtle and even.
Book: Light is the New Black by Rebecca Campbell
I first heard about this book a few months ago, but for some reason I didn’t decide to buy it until about a week before Christmas. This might possibly be my favorite book I’ve read this year because it was just what I was looking for without even realizing it. I mentioned it in a recent post where I owned my weirdness, but I absolutely had to mention it again. It’s about learning what lights you up and focusing on how you can do that more, but it’s also about so much more. As cheesy as it is to say, this book changed my life. It won’t be for everybody, but if you’re interested in spirituality or different ways to find and keep happiness, give this a try It definitely isn’t your typical self-help book.
TV show: The Night Of
I heard of this show from the My Favorite Murder podcast. (which is amazing and you should definitely listen to it if you like true crime/murders). By the way they were raving about it, I knew I had to give it a try. IMDb can describe the plot faster than I can so here’s what they said: “After a night of partying with a female stranger, a man wakes up to find her stabbed to death and is charged with her murder.” It’s gripping right from the beginning! I think the camera angles and cinematography are so beautiful and interesting. The cast is great, and the characters are very complex.
Playlist: Light is the New Black Book Playlist
This playlist is so good! I’ve been listening to it pretty much nonstop since I saw it was mentioned in the book. It’s full of inspirational, self-love and empowering songs, some of which I’d heard before and some I hadn’t. It’s a really nice mix of different genres with words that share the same overall theme.
