Reflections on 2015 and Goals for 2016
In case you missed this post last year, the title of this post might be a bit confusing to you. Here are goals I set for myself:
— Embark on a year of discovery.
I feel like I did discover a lot about myself, other people, the blogging world, etc. I feel like I haven’t discovered everything I want to yet, so this will be ongoing, but I made a lot of great progress in 2015.
— Touch the butt.
Again, I think I did a good job of this but I could be better at touching more butts. Er, taking more risks.
— Up my blogging game.
I feel like this also went both ways (geez, indecisive much?). I got a new theme and discovered a more specific purpose, but I took more time off from blogging than I planned. I don’t regret it, as I’d rather have fewer posts with purpose than a bunch of posts basically filled with nonsense, but still. I have a lot of great things in the works (as always), so definitely stay tuned. You haven’t seen the last of me!
— Be healthier.
This was kind of a flop in 2015, not gonna lie. My boyfriend and I have been eating out so much less, which is definitely a positive, but we still sometimes buy things we know are bad. I’m not saying we’re trying to be perfect (ha!), but baby steps are in progress. We’re buying pop and snacks less, going out less and cooking more. Plus, with all of the new kitchen stuff we recently got, I think 2016 is on track to slay this goal. Slaaaay (is that still a thing?).
— Bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles.
I mean, this was one of my loftier goals, so I can’t be too upset I didn’t reach it. But I did watch and quote Mean Girls a lot, so I still consider that a success.
And now here are my goals for 2016, as told via some pretty awesome GIFs:
— Develop more personal style
While I may not wear a silver fringy dress like Amy or a backwards leopard dress like Tina, I would like to expand my wardrobe and really use it as a way to express myself. I feel like I’ve had some clothes for years, which is fine, but then I end up always wearing the same outfits. Next year I really want to try some new combinations or pick up a few new key pieces and really have fun expressing myself.
— Do more with my hair
Can you tell I saw the movie Sisters lately? It’s a great movie in case you haven’t seen it yet. Anyway, this GIF always cracks me up because I feel like that’s the face I make when faced with a blow dryer. Most days I just end up tossing my hair into a ponytail or bun because I’d rather do my makeup than hair in the mornings. This needs to change in 2016! Not that my routine will completely change, but I need to expand my horizons more and try new things.
— Get a better grasp on adulthood
While we can all 100% agree adulthood is a trap, nonetheless I need to get a better grip on it all. Last night I used some gift cards I got for Christmas and my boyfriend and I picked up new wine glasses, new regular drinking glasses, a new cookie sheet and a stainless steel pots and pans set. My mom and step-dad got us a crockpot for Christmas, and my dad and step-mom got us a new set of silverware, so we’re starting 2016 ready to conquer the kitchen! But besides all of that, I need to really sit down and prioritize my life more. My boyfriend and I have both gotten better at this, but there’s always room for improvement. And watching cartoons. All of the cartoons.
— Own my awesomeness
Even though my confidence has increased in the past few years, I still have a ways to go. While I like to post on here about owning your confidence and loving yourself, I’m no stranger to forgetting to do those things. Guess what? You’re awesome and I’m awesome and we can all just be so awesome together. I promise I won’t forget that, so will you promise that, too? You, too, are Beyonce, always.
— Channel my inner Pam
Again, I’m still obsessed with The Office. This is one of my favorite quotes from both the finale and the show in general, and I think it’s so important for us all to think about. What are you doing to make yourself happy, and what are you doing that’s not making you happy at all? Obviously paying bills or rent doesn’t make me happy when my checking account goes down, but there’s not much I can do about that. But I can do something about the activities I participate in, the people I talk to, etc.
— Have a kick-ass year
Again, Sisters is a great movie and you should all go see it. More than anything, I just want to have a great year and focus on the positives. Negativity will pop up, but I need to get better at channeling my energy into self-love and happiness. I want to have fun and be bold and take risks!
Here’s to 2016, and I hope you all have a great year and crush your goals!
