Today I’m excited to review the Kiss Instawave, a product I received to test out from BrandBacker! I’ve already received awesome products to review from Old Factory Candles, SOBO, Exuviance, BA Star and Valentia, and I can’t recommend BrandBacker highly enough.
{Note: Sorry for the poor quality of some of these photos. I decided it was a great idea to curl my hair at night and I apparently wasn’t paying attention to the focus much. Oops!}
Let’s get this review started! When I first heard about the Kiss Instawave, I was really curious and slightly terrified. I mean, it’s a device that wraps your hair around it to make curls. I was really worried my hair would constantly get caught or the curls would look stupid and other things of that nature. While it does take a little bit to get used to how to use it, the curls look great and it’s just pretty darn cool.
Here’s what the website has to say:

Here’s what my hair looks like when it’s been in a bun all day and then I brush it. I know, be jealous.
So I don’t know if you guys are all aware, but I have a ton of hair. Like, a ton. I have a lot of very thick hair, so doing pretty much anything with a styling tool takes forever unless I divide my hair into layers.
After I divide my hair into layers, I grab about an inch of hair and place it within the pegs on the device. The InstaWave can curl to the left or to the right, so I alternate while doing my hair to make it look more natural. When you push the button, your hair twists around the device so it’s contained within the pegs. The instructions recommend keeping your hair held within the pegs between three and ten seconds (the longer, the tighter the curl). And because my hair is so thick, I put the InstaWave on the high setting, and it heats up within less than 30 seconds and stays consistently hot.
Like I said, it took a little while for me to get the hang of it, but once I figured it out, I was able to get my hair done pretty quickly and the curls looked better than I thought they would. I do burn my finger occasionally on the barrel, but I think that’s mainly because of my clumsiness.
Here was the finished product, which only took me 30 minutes (which is pretty good for me for styling tools!):
The only thing that’s not great is the low humming noise it makes when plugged in. According to the website, the sound is caused by the automatic motor mechanism and it’s 100 percent certified by ETL safety requirements with a two year warranty. But in any case, that’s a small price to pay to get easy curls.
Overall, I really like it and I’m glad I got the chance to review it! Like I said, it takes a bit to get used to, and sometimes I’m really clumsy and burn myself, but it doesn’t take as long as other styling tools I’ve used and I really like how the curls look.
The Kiss InstaWave retails for $59.99 at Target and Ulta.
