Anyone who knows me probably isn’t surprised to hear that I love to throw myself a dance party quite often. Especially in this time of quarantine and physical distancing, it can be easy to get caught up in the people we can’t see versus the fun we can have at home.
As cheesy as that sounds, it’s true. I get sad and down when I think about how I can’t go to the library or Barnes and Noble or a restaurant or a coffee shop to hang out solo or with friends. Sometimes I need to knock myself out of a bad mood, and having a dance party is one of the best and quickest ways to do that, at least for me.
Sometimes I’ll start out just swaying a bit, still in a bad mood, and soon enough, I’m headbanging and singing or lip syncing along into my hairbrush, no joke.
Music has always been such a big part of my life, and it’s helped get me through so many different difficult times, so of course right now would be no exception.
One of my friends recently said I inspired her to have a dance party, so I sent her some of my favorite dance party playlists on Spotify. I decided to share them with you as well in case you need some inspiration or something new to listen to.
Some of these playlists were made by me, and some were made by other people, but they’re all so good. If none of them strike your fancy, browse around Spotify (or whatever music app you use) until you find something that’s more your jam. Let’s get started, and don’t forget to follow me on Spotify to see my other playlists (and yes, I did have several dance party breaks when making this blog post)!
#ThrowbackThursday
I have a love-hate relationship with this playlist made by Spotify, but that’s why I enjoy it so much. Spotify changes the theme of this playlist every single Thursday, so if you don’t like it one week, just wait until the next week and it’ll be completely different music.
90s
I mean, the 90s were basically the greatest decade of music, am I right? I know that’s a loaded question, but I stand by it. This playlist by Samantha Louise Marett is so killer, honestly. It’s full of so many bops that I can’t even. It currently has almost 100 songs on it, which makes it over six hours long. Talk about an epic dance party!
Bad Bitch Vibes
This is a playlist I made specifically for a dance party that’ll help you feel like a bad bitch. #duh It features a variety of artists, including Lizzo, Rihanna, Jessie J, Britney Spears, Doja Cat and Dream. I do love myself some variety!
CUZ I LOVE YOU
This playlist is made by Lizzo and has exclusively only her music on it. #iconic But honestly, Lizzo is life and she has so many great ballads and songs to twerk to, if you can do that (I, sadly, cannot). If you’re ever in a really bad mood, listen to this playlist. I’ve found that I can’t be mad if I’m listening to Lizzo. She’ll get ya.
DANCE THAT SHIT OUT
This is another killer playlist by Samantha Louise Marett! This one currently has over 400 songs on it, which clocks in around 26.5 hours long. *jawdrop* There are so many different artists, genres and decades on this playlist that I don’t think you could ever get sick of it. Even if you don’t like a few songs, there are hundreds of others so just put it on shuffle and dance away! Ugh, I love this playlist so much.
Feelin’ Good
Spotify calls this a positively timeless playlist, and I totally agree. This is what I’ve started to listen to before I do individual intuitive card readings for people because even if I’m already in a good mood, this playlist just raises my vibes so much! It has a mixture of older and newer songs, so I agree that it really is timeless. This is just a good ol’ playlist perfect for any dance party, really.
Fired Up!
This is another playlist I made, and while it’s similar to Bad Bitch Vibes, it has a bit of a different vibe to it. I curated this playlist to include songs that make me feel really fired up (hence, the title), and it includes a few more male artists than my other playlist above. This is a really good playlist to listen to if you want to shake out some nerves or a bad mood, I’m just sayin.
Stay At Home Club: Kick Ass in Quarantine
This playlist was made by Ashley Morken from Unglued in downtown Fargo, and I love it and her so much! It has mostly songs from recent years, but there are a few throwbacks as well, and I love a good throwback (see playlist below)! This playlist has a lot of songs that I wouldn’t think to put together, but they totally work. Now go dance it out at home!
Ultimate Throwback
This is another playlist that I made, and I’m super proud of it. It has over 100 songs and it’s over seven hours long, so again, if you don’t like one song, move on to the next one! This playlist is ever-evolving as I think of more songs I loved in my youth, so you should definitely save it for whenever you’re feeling nostalgic (which, for me, is a lot of the time lately).
Uplifting Soul Classics
I mean, come on. Who doesn’t love soul music?! I feel like soul is the ultimate genre for pumping up your mood and blood flow real quick. It’s perfect for a dance party because the music is just so happy and emotional and I just love it.
