First of all, if you haven’t seen the movie “Welcome to Me” with Kristin Wiig, you need to go do so right now. It’s so weird but also pretty fantastic.
I feel like I’ve changed a lot (mostly for the better) in recent years, and since I’ve gotten a lot of new followers both on this blog and on social media (and taken a bit of a break recently), I wanted to re-introduce myself. So, welcome to me!
*All photos of me were taken by the wonderful Carrie Snyder.
Hi, I’m Jessica!
I blog about beauty, self-love, body positivity, my life, my dog, etc. This started out as a straight up makeup/beauty blog mainly focused on products and reviews, but my interests changed over time as I started learning more about the concept of self-love. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I was horrible to myself when I was younger, as were my so-called “friends” at the time. Once I realized what self-love and body positivity were, my whole life started to change. I realized I didn’t need to talk to myself the way I had been for years, and I also realized no one else had the power to make me feel bad about myself if I didn’t let them. And so began my self-love journey! It’s not always perfect (in fact, it rarely is), but it’s real and it’s me, and I hope that authenticity comes across in this space. I’ve come a long way, but I know I still have a long way to go. For example, I never would’ve posted a full frame picture of myself even a year ago because I immediately start to pick apart any photo of me, but I’m trying to change. Baby steps!
I have a matching tattoo with my sister.
Both of my grandpas passed away within a year or so of each other, and as a way to honor them, my sister and I got matching tattoos. Mine is on my right shoulder blade, and hers is on her left shoulder blade. One of our grandpas loved playing guitar, and the other always carved or drew a heart on everything he made, so we came up with a design that combined both of those things. We’re both so proud of them and this tattoo, and I think it also helped bring us closer since it was the first tattoo for either one of us.
I love to smile and laugh.
As cheesy as that sounds, it’s true. Life’s too short to not try to be as happy as possible. I have bad days, just like anyone else, but it’s all about learning how to get past that and move on instead of being stuck. And when all else fails, I watch Elf. Mr. Narwhal just gets me.
I love Harry Potter and other nerdy things.
Anyone that knows me in real life knows my deep love of Harry Potter. I remember going to many of the midnight premieres and midnight releases of the books and movies, and I’ve really missed those experiences lately. I did go to the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and while it was fun, it wasn’t the same as before. However, my love for HP and other nerdy things only seems to grow with age, and I’m proud of it! And while I have many thoughts on Cursed Child, I won’t give away any spoilers in case some of you haven’t started/finished yet. You’re welcome.
I love wearing bright colors and bold patterns.
This leopard-print shirt is one of my favorite items from my closet, as is that pink cardigan. They are definitely some of the most bold items I own. Late last year, I made a goal of expanding my wardrobe and trying out new things, so I did that a few weeks ago when Lane Bryant was having a 40% off sale. I bought a beautiful, flowy white skirt and bright pink capris (a.k.a., basically me in clothing form). I also got some awesome skirts from Society+. They always have such good sales, the clothes are gorgeous, the fit is perfect and their site is all about body positivity. What’s more awesome than that?!
I have a cute boyfriend and an even cuter dog.
Bella is one of the cutest dogs to every exist, and clearly I am quite fond of my boyfriend as well. We’ve been together for just over five years now, and it’s been great. We’ve both helped each other grow and learn a lot, and we’re just as strong and in love as ever. Also, we’re both big romantic cheese balls. #sorrynotsorry Also, for those who are curious, Bella is a mix of a black lab and a dachshund, and she’s just as precious as can be, and she’s all over my Instagram feed.
I can quote TV shows and movies in nearly any conversation, especially from The Office.
I pride this on being a great skill of mine, actually. While it annoys some (#sorrynotsorry), I can’t help but be amused. I have won many quote wars, especially on The Office and Anchorman, but I’ve also been known to casually drop random phrases from various movies or shows in normal conversation. At times it can be quite confusing, but mostly it’s a fun little game. You’re welcome.
So, welcome to all of followers, new or old! If you have any questions for me or just want to chat, comment below, message me on Facebook or email me. More posts will be coming soon; I just need a little break from blogging and posting so much on social media. I know you guys understand, so thank you! Until next time.
