As I’ve mentioned before, my life is a little bit hectic and crazy at the moment, and it’s been like this more or less for months. So I’ve decided to do what I can to declutter my life to help me feel less stressed and focus on what I can control.
— Leaving some Facebook groups. I was in a few fan groups for The Office and Parks & Rec, and while I enjoyed reading the funny memes, there was always a lot of drama among group members that I decided I didn’t want to see in my news feed anymore. I left some other groups that I just wasn’t vibing with anymore, and it felt so good! I highly recommend this.
— Emptying my Goodreads list. I wrote a whole post on this but wanted to mention it again. This really helped open my mind to see what kind of pressure I was putting on myself without even realizing it, so I’m really grateful for that.
— Canceling subscriptions. I was subscribed to a few magazines that I really enjoyed but hadn’t really read in months. The magazines have just been sitting on my dresser, and I was tired of seeing them pile up so I made the decision to cancel my subscriptions, at least for now. I also canceled some Patreon subscriptions, including to some podcasts that I love, because money was getting pretty tight for a while. I realized that canceling those subscriptions doesn’t make me a bad person. It just means my priorities have shifted at the moment, and I don’t need to (nor will I) feel bad about that.
— Unsubscribing from newsletters. I feel like this will be something that I battle for the rest of my life, but it’s still worth mentioning here. Is there anything more satisfying than unsubscribing from some newsletters you don’t want to get anymore? Obviously there are a lot of things that are more satisfying than that, but you get what I mean. Clearing out my inbox by unsubscribing from newsletters and trying to stay on top of any new emails that I receive has been a big help for minimizing the clutter both on my phone and in my brain. Declutter your inbox, too!
These are just a few of the actions I’ve taken to declutter my life, and I can already tell a noticeable difference in my overall mood, demeanor and stress level. Life still stresses me out sometimes, duh, but I’m getting better at letting fewer things than necessary bring me down.
